A 29-year-old man has appeared in court accused of murdering a woman found with stab wounds in a west London alleyway.

Ania Jedrkowiak, 21, was discovered off Church Gardens, in South Ealing, as she walked home from work just after midnight on 17 May.

Dennis Akpomedaye, 29, of Blewitt Street, Newport, appeared by video-link at the Old Bailey charged with murdering the Polish student.

A plea hearing was set for 8 August and a provisional trial date set for May.

Mr Akpomedaye was further remanded into custody.

A post-mortem examination concluded Ms Jedrkowiak died from multiple stab injuries.

The Met Police said officers would return to the scene later, believing there could be witnesses yet to come forward.
