Dozens of firefighters have been tackling a blaze that badly damaged the top floor of a semi-detached house in south-east London.

About 70 firefighters in 10 fire engines were called to Chelsfield Hill in Orpington, at about 02:15 BST.

Nobody was injured and the cause of the blaze is not yet known. People in the area are advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

Crews "worked extremely hard to control the large fire", a fire chief said.

Clive Robinson, a London Fire Brigade station commander, said crews were expected to remain at the scene for some time.
