Polls have opened in the Hackney mayoral by-election, after former mayor Philip Glanville stood down in September.
Mr Glanville was suspended by the Labour Party after a photo showed him at a social event with an ex-councillor arrested over child abuse images.
Statutory deputy mayor of Hackney Anntoinette Bramble assumed temporary leadership of the council.
Polls close at 10pm on Thursday and the result will be announced on Friday.
The six candidates for the next mayor of Hackney are:
Simon De Deney, Liberal Democrats
Zoë Garbett, Green Party
Peter Smorthit, Independent
Simche Steinberger, The Conservative Party
Annoesjka Valent, Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition
Caroline Rebecca Woodley, Labour Party
Voters attending polling stations across the borough will need to bring photo ID with them.
Mr Glanville was first elected as mayor in 2016.
He stood down after he was pictured with councillor Tom Dewey, who in August, was given a one-year suspended sentence after admitting possessing 1,850 indecent images of children.
