Christmas: London workers on Christmas Day 1949

Long before many of us stopped work for the festive period this year, an army of workers that went to work on Christmas Day 1949 was filmed by the BBC.

Alongside emergency service workers, traffic police officers kept London's roads moving, milkmen kept on delivering, the streets were swept, and even the buses ran.
