Met Police officer PC Daniel Beegan has been charged with one count of sexual assault by touching

A Metropolitan Police officer appeared in court on Monday accused of a sexual assault.

PC Daniel Beegan, of the specialist crime unit, was arrested on 31 March last year and charged on 31 December, the force said.

PC Beegan appeared at Croydon Magistrates' Court charged with one count of sexual assault by touching.

The alleged offence involved a woman and is said to have happened on 8 December 2022 when he was off duty.

Det Supt Victoria Sullivan said: "This is a serious allegation and I recognise it will cause concern.

"Legal proceedings are now under way and it is important to avoid any further commentary while this process takes place."

The officer was placed on restricted duties after his arrest and was later suspended from duty, the Met said.

He is due to next appear at Croydon Crown Court in February.
