Bolton funerals could be streamed online

Funerals in Bolton could be broadcast on the internet under plans being considered by the council.

Family and friends would be able to log on and view a service via a live video stream, and for seven days afterwards. The page would be password protected.

Bolton Council also wants to set up an electronic book of remembrance, expand its burial grounds and extend Overdale Crematorium's West Chapel.

It is also considering holding cremations at weekends.

'Times have changed'

The council is holding a consultation process and is urging people to give their views before 22 July.

Councillor Akhtar Zaman, Bolton Council's executive member for Environmental Services, said: "We want to ensure that the service is managed and developed with the feelings and needs of our customers considered.

"Times have changed and we have been asked why we don't offer services like webcasting and weekend services.

"We have already spoken to faith groups, and funeral directors but we would like the views of the public to help us understand what is important to them."
