War medals found in Bolton on Remembrance Sunday

Five medals from World War II were found at a bus station in Bolton on Remembrance Sunday.

The medals were found by a member of the public at Trinity Street bus station on 11 November.

Three photographs were found with the medals, one of which is of a minesweeper.

Police are keen to reunite them with their owner and are appealing to anyone who thinks they may have lost them to get in touch.

A spokesman said four of the medals were "court mounted" in a row and the fifth was on its own.

Det Con Paul Gore from Scholey Street police station said police were grateful to the person who handed them in.

He said: "It is possible someone has misplaced these medals after travelling to or from a memorial service on Sunday and I imagine they are feeling devastated at the prospect of losing these highly valued possessions.

"Three photographs were also found with the medals, one of which we have issued, which is an image of a minesweeper.

"The medals and photographs are being stored safely at Scholey Street police station and we would ask either the owner of the medals, or anyone who has any information about who they belong to, to contact police."

Parades were held across Greater Manchester last Sunday.

In Bolton, a parade took place at 11:15 GMT followed by a church service and laying of wreaths at the war memorial.
