Police said the victim is finding it hard to cope without his parrots

A Greater Manchester man with autism has been devastated by the theft of his two parrots, police said.

The parrots were stolen during a burglary at his house on Brierley Street, Oldham, between 18:00 GMT and 21:00 on Wednesday.

Police believe the offenders climbed a roof before sneaking in through an upstairs window.

They stole a purse, jewellery box and the birds from bedrooms while the 41-year-old victim was in the living room.

Det Con Sam Blackwood said: "The parrots form an essential part of this man's life and, bearing in mind his condition, he is finding it very hard to cope.

"I would urge anyone who has any idea of the whereabouts of these parrots to call us."
