A man has been arrested on suspicion of indecent assault as part of a police investigation into historical sexual abuse at a Manchester music college.

The 58-year-old was arrested at his London home over allegations of abuse at the Royal Northern College of Music.

A woman has alleged he assaulted her there in 1994, when she was aged 21.

Police investigating both the college and Chetham's School of Music have said more than 30 women have reported incidents of abuse.

The investigation follows the conviction of former choirmaster Michael Brewer, 68, for abusing pupil Frances Andrade at the school in the 1970s and 1980s.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said it had assessed 39 individuals after receiving information following Brewer's conviction and the death of Mrs Andrade after giving evidence in the trial.

A spokeswoman for the college said the institution would "be assisting the police in whatever way it can" but that they could not comment any further.
