A £60m regeneration scheme for Wigan town centre has been unveiled.

The Galleries shopping centre would be redeveloped to include a cinema, gym and restaurants, as well as a leisure complex.

Wigan market would be moved back to Market Street, placing traders in the "heart" of the shopping area.

Developer Vale Retail is holding a public consultation and will be submitting a planning application to Wigan Council in the next few months.

The Makinson Arcade would also be updated and renamed the Makinson Quarter.

Vale Retail will be holding the consultation in Ashton Gallery on the first floor of the Galleries.
