Manchester children's homes historical sex abuse victims plea

Victims of historical sex abuse at Manchester children's homes are being urged to come forward to claim compensation from the city council.

The abuse took place at three homes - Rosehill in Northenden, Broome House in Didsbury and Mobberley Boys School in Knutsford from the 1950s to the 1990s.

Solicitor Peter Garsden said receiving compensation could help victims whose lives were damaged.

The cut-off date for claims is in May this year.

Mr Garsden said: "It is a painful experience but generally people feel better for getting it out in the open and at least telling the families what they went through.

"It is likely they have led a very sad life.

"Compensation is all the courts can give them, but what they all want is justice."

A total of £4.3m compensation has been paid to two groups of victims who have already taken legal action.

The lowest individual settlement was £1,100 and the highest £30,000.
