Train delays between Manchester and Liverpool after vandalism

Vandals cut signalling cables overnight in the Salford Crescent area causing severe disruption to trains between Manchester and Liverpool.
Direct services from Liverpool to Manchester Airport were cancelled.
There was also disruption between Preston and Hazel Grove, Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria, and Southport and Manchester Airport.
Services were restored late on Monday afternoon, Northern Rail said.
