Faulkner said he made an error in judgement

Australian international cricketer James Faulkner has apologised after his arrest for drinking and driving.

Faulkner, 25, has been dropped from Lancashire's T20 Blast game against Yorkshire at Old Trafford.

The all-rounder, who was man-of-the match at Australia's World Cup in March, was arrested and bailed on Thursday by Greater Manchester Police.

Faulkner, who is due in court in Manchester on 21 July, apologised via Cricket Australia's, external website.

"My decision to drive was an error in judgement," he said.

Cricket Australia Executive General Manager of Team Performance Pat Howard said: "This is a very real wake-up call for James and all other Australian cricketers around the importance of responsible decision making."

Lancashire County Cricket Club (LCCC) confirmed Faulkner would not be selected for the Yorkshire match and said it would work alongside Cricket Australia to consider additional steps over the next few days.

The left arm seamer took 3-36 in Australia's World Cup victory over New Zealand.
