Two arrested in probe into ecstasy death at Victoria Warehouse

The so called 'Mastercard' pills may contain up to double the dose of MDMA expected in ecstasy tablets, police say

Two people have been arrested in connection with the death of a teenager after she took ecstasy on a night out.

The 17-year-old girl, named as Faye Allen from Liverpool, died on Monday after it is thought she suffered an adverse reaction to a form of the drug known as Mastercard, police said.

She had been on a night out at the Victoria Warehouse in Trafford.

A man, 19, and woman, 20, are being held on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug.

They were arrested in the St Helens area early on Tuesday morning and will be questioned later, Greater Manchester Police said.

'Double dose'

Ms Allen was taken by ambulance from the Victoria Warehouse to Manchester Royal Infirmary shortly after 05:00 BST but died in hospital.

Det Ch Insp Ben Ewart said she suffered a "desperately tragic and fatal reaction" after purchasing and consuming the tablet at the venue.

He said the "small, pink figure of eight" tablet, which has "white or red dots" and the word Mastercard printed across it, may contain "up to double the dose of MDMA expected in ecstasy tablets."

He urged anybody who may have taken it to "get themselves checked out."

"We want to pass on our deepest sympathy to Faye's family and friends", he added.

Anybody who knows where the drug may have come from has been asked to contact police.
