Judge rules teenager in Rochdale must give up baby

A teenager who became pregnant after being placed into council care must give up her baby, a family court judge in Leeds has ruled.

The girl, now 17, had been taken into care in Rochdale over fears she was vulnerable to sexual exploitation.

She lived with the child's father, an illegal immigrant in his 20s, after starting a relationship in 2014.

The judge said the boy should be placed for adoption after social workers raised concerns for his welfare.

Judge Jill Troy said Home Office officials told her the father, who is from Pakistan, had "no valid basis of stay" in the UK.

A few months before starting a relationship with the teenager, the man was made the subject of a Child Abduction Warning after Greater Manchester Police investigated his involvement with another teenage girl, Judge Troy said.

She concluded the little boy would be at risk of neglect and emotional harm if left in the care of his mother.
