The force said a 51-year-old woman was "sadly pronounced dead at the scene" after officers arrived

A woman has died in a suspected stabbing at a property.

Greater Manchester Police officers were sent to an address in Edge Lane, Droylsden, shortly after noon.

The 51-year-old victim was discovered injured at the scene but was pronounced dead about 45 minutes later.

Appealing for information, a GMP representative said no arrests had been made but a male suspect was thought to have fled the scene.

Ch Supt Phil Davies, Tameside's district commander said: "We will do everything we can to ensure we locate the person responsible for this callous attack.

"We are unable to confirm whether the offender was known to the victim and we are working with the victim's family and members of the public to establish the circumstances of this incident.

"I understand this news will come as a great shock to those in the Droylsden community. In response, you will see an increased presence of our local officers, who will be patrolling the local community on-foot and in vehicles providing added reassurance to the community."
