Ch Supt Phil Hutchinson says cannabis is not a victimless crime

Hundreds of cannabis plants with a street value of £1m have been found in a raid on an empty industrial unit.

The farm was discovered on Collet Street in the Derker district of Oldham earlier, Greater Manchester Police said.

Two men in their 30s have been arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis.

Ch Supt Phil Hutchinson said community support enabled police "to conduct this warrant which led to a huge discovery."

The latest seizure brings the total street value of cannabis farms seized by the Oldham team in the past four weeks to more than £4m.

Police have been targeting cannabis farms in Oldham over the past month

"Our work in the past month alone is testament to how well our officers are doing at rooting out this issue, Ch Supt Hutchinson said.

"This is not a victimless crime - there is a web of organised criminality behind these recent seizures."
