A man who stabbed his housemate to death has been sentenced to an indefinite hospital order.

Greater Manchester Police said Thomas Murphy, 42, was found dead at the Beverly Road house he shared with Stephen Owusu in Fallowfield, Manchester, on 24 September 2022.

Owusu, 23, admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

That plea was accepted by the prosecution and he was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court.

Speaking after the sentencing, senior investigating officer Phil Reade said Mr Murphy was "a completely innocent victim and the thoughts of the whole investigation team remain with his family, especially his two daughters and his parents".

He said Mr Murphy's family had shown "strength and dignity" throughout the proceedings, "the conclusion of which I know will not lessen their heartbreak".
