Thelwall Viaduct: One seriously injured in multi-vehicle M6 crash

One person has been seriously injured in a multi-vehicle crash on a busy motorway.

Cheshire Police said two lorries, a white Ford Zetec and a white Ford Kuga collided at 07:48 GMT on the northbound side of the M6 at Thelwall Viaduct.

The crash, near Warrington, closed all four lanes near junction 21 but one reopened about three hours later.

National Highways North-West, external said the crash had caused hour-long northbound delays and 30 minutes southbound.

By about 11:35 all lanes had reopened with delays beginning to ease, it said on X.

Police said fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene and the road was closed in both directions to allow an air ambulance to land.

Cheshire Police said the serious injuries sustained by one man were not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

The force added a "number of other casualties were taken to hospital by paramedics" and those injuries were not believed to be serious.
