Manchester school closed after classroom damaged by fire

A Manchester school will remain closed until at least Monday after fire broke out in a classroom.
Firefighters are investigating the cause of the blaze, which broke out on Thursday night at the Dean Trust School in Ardwick.
The school said it was contained in one classroom but there was "extensive smoke and water damage".
"Our intention is to open the school to as many children as possible early next week," principal Tarun Kapur said.
"However, we have made the decision to close on Monday due to the amount of work required to make the building safe."
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said they were alerted to the blaze at about 19:30 GMT.
Eight fire engines attended with firefighters using "jets, breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera to bring the fire under control".
The spokesman added: "The fire has now been extinguished and the road has been reopened.
"There is substantial smoke damage to the classroom and surrounding areas, and crews remain at the scene this morning while we await the fire investigation team."
