Wythenshawe: People asked for views on cultural hub plan

People living in Manchester are being asked for their views on plans to transform a vacant department store into a centre for the creative arts.
Manchester City Council hopes to create a "cultural hub" in Wythenshawe, with the former Co-Op store at its heart.
The plans - called the Wythenshawe Civic Project - include building a new public square, shops and community space, plus 1,600 new homes.
People are being urged to submit their views online before 4 February., external
The council is seeking a development partner for the scheme, which is being funded by a £20m Levelling Up Fund grant, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
Luthfur Rahman, deputy council leader, said: "We want Wythenshawe Civic to deliver for local people and we're thinking differently about what is already on offer in the town centre and what we can bring in to enhance the space, encourage more visitors to support the economy of the local area, and develop new job opportunities.
"Cultural investment has proven an innovative way of supporting regeneration plans in different communities across the city - helping to broaden the visitor experience and attract new businesses.
"What this looks like and how it works is really up to the local people and organisations that will use it."
The hub will provide space and facilities for artists, creative firms, and community groups to work on projects.
