Altrincham care home's card plea for grandmother's 100th birthday

A care home is appealing for cards and birthday wishes to mark a much-loved grandmother's 100th birthday next week.
Gladys Landes has lived at Oldfield Bank in Altrincham since 2021 and reaches the milestone on Monday.
Home manager Andy Foote described the 99-year-old as "a bit feisty, with a good sense of humour".
Staff plan to read the hundreds of well-wishes left on a social media post to Gladys at her birthday party, he said.
The home has already been inundated with cards sent to Gladys from across the country.
Gladys, who worked in a bakery and has two daughters, was a keen bridge player for many years.
She can boast of once playing against the film star Omar Sharif, at the time regarded as one of the world's best players.
A letter of congratulations from King Charles III to mark the great-grandmother's big day has already arrived, ready to be opened on her birthday.
The home on Highgate Road in Altrincham now hopes other messages will follow.
"She certainly knows what she wants, even if she can't always tell you," Mr Foote said.
"It's an achievement to get to that age, of course, but we like to make everyone feel special whatever their age."
