A dummy hand grenade found in items donated to a charity shop sparked a major security alert at a shopping centre.

An Army bomb disposal team was called to Arcades shopping centre in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Tameside, at about 13:15 GMT.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said the "training device" was assessed and was not believed to pose a risk.

Several other shops in the centre were closed as a precaution.
