Lane closures will be in place during resurfacing work on a major road, council bosses have said.

The repair work on Princess Parkway — also called Princess Road —in Manchester is set to begin on Monday near the junction with the M60.

The route connects the motorway and Greater Manchester's outer ring road to the city-region's inner ring road, linking up to Mancunian Way.

Work is expected to be completed by 24 February.

Council chiefs said they had assessed the road and found it needed repairs from the M60's junction five off-slip to the junction of Barlow Moor Road in south Manchester.

To allow the work to take place, lane closures will be in force with crews working from 21:00 GMT to 05:00.

Motorists have been advised to plan ahead and check Transport for Greater Manchester's website and social media channels for updates.

Councillor Tracey Rawlins, executive member for environment and transport said: "I'm pleased that working with our partners in National Highways we have been able to carry out this improvement work sooner than we had expected,"

"As a council we remain committed to improving our highways network and we are confident this latest scheme of work will have a positive impact for motorists.

"We know this will cause some delays and disruption, but we are grateful for the public's understanding during the course of works."
