PD Hully tracked the van driver across fields to a children's playground

A police dog found a dangerous driving suspect hiding in a children's playground after tracking him from the motorway.

Greater Manchester Police dog Hully followed the scent from the embankment of the M60 in Stockport after the driver fled on foot shortly after 02:15 GMT.

The suspect's trail took the German Shepherd over fields and into the Brinnington estate's play area.

The suspect, 16, was arrested there.

He was held on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and taking without owner's consent and remains in custody for questioning.

GMP said officers had started to pursue a suspicious Peugeot van on Mount Road, Gorton.

At one stage during the pursuit the van went the wrong way down the motorway, police said.

The force added the suspect had the van keys when he was discovered by Hully.

Sgt Paul Holt from Greater Manchester Police's Tactical Dog Unit said the driver of the van had shown "total disregard for other people's safety".
