Police are appealing for witnesses after the attack in Stockport

A 20-year-old man has been stabbed in a "sickening" attack during a mass brawl on a suburban street.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) are appealing for witnesses to the fight in Alvanley Crescent, Stockport on Tuesday at 16:30 GMT.

A GMP spokesman said the injured man was taken to hospital with stab injuries which were "serious but not life-threatening".

Insp Stuart McConnell described the attack as "really sickening".

He added: "Inquiries continue to piece together the full circumstances of what has occurred and who is involved in the incident but at this time we believe this is a targeted attack with no risk to the wider public."

Insp McConnell said the force was "keen to hear from anyone who saw anything unusual in the area... or saw anyone acting suspiciously".
