A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after another man was found dead in a house, police have said.

The body of a 37-year-old man was found by officers responding to a report of a concern for welfare in Barton Walk, Bolton, at about 18:00 GMT on Tuesday.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) held a 34-year-old man on suspicion of murder, who has since been released on bail.

GMP's professional standards body was assessing the victim's death as he had previous contact with police.

Det Insp Stuart Woodhead, from GMP, said: "I want to firstly reassure the community that we believe this to be an isolated incident and that there is no wider threat to the community."

He said they were "keeping an open mind" and appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
