Five people hurt after Bolton police chase ends in crash

Five people have been hurt after a "suspicious" car crashed into traffic on the opposite side of the road while being chased by police.

It happened on the A666 in Bolton at about 20:30 GMT on Sunday.

Five people were treated at the scene with "a number taken to hospital with serious injuries", Greater Manchester Police said.

The force has referred itself to the police watchdog after the crash, in accordance with usual procedures.

Officers had spotted what they described as a "suspicious Skoda" in the Bury Road area of the town.

The vehicle entered the A666 slip road from St Peter's Way before veering on to the opposite side of the road and smashing into an oncoming BMW.

Three people were injured in the Skoda, with two from the BMW also hurt.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said the force was seeking information from witnesses or those with footage of the incident

The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, they added.
