Three people have been injured in a stabbing close to a market.

An air ambulance was called to the scene in Murray Road, Bury, following the attack just after 12:00 GMT, with police at first referring only to an "incident".

Greater Manchester Police later said it was a "targeted" attack near the town's market and said the injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

North West Ambulance Service said the three people were taken to hospital.

Police have not made any arrests and have appealed for information.

Det Ch Insp John Charlton, of GMP's Bury division, said: "We believe this incident was a targeted attack and thankfully no one has suffered life-threatening injuries.

"There is not a threat to the wider public and we believe this was an isolated incident."
