A teenage boy has been seriously hurt in a stabbing.

He has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after the attack at about 16:15 BST on Raby Street in the Moss Side area of Manchester, police said.

The age of the victim has not yet been released.

Greater Manchester Police said no arrests have been made but initial inquiries were "well under way" and appealed for witnesses.

Officers will remain in the area while the force investigates the incident.

Supt Muzemil Kernain said: "We understand the local community will be quite rightly shocked when hearing this news and we will continue to provide a visible reassurance in the area over the coming days in the form of on-foot patrol officers, vehicle patrols and covert patrols."

He urged anyone with information or dashcam or mobile phone footage to come forward, adding it would be "treated with the strictest confidence".
