A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a woman was struck on the M6, police have said.

The 52-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent was hit by a vehicle while walking along the M6 to M62 slip road in Cheshire in the early hours of Tuesday.

Cheshire Police confirmed a 47-year-old man from Preston had been arrested.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 01:14 GMT.
