Liverpool World Museum offers insects and worms to eat

Visitors to a Liverpool museum are being offered bugs and worms to eat as part of a programme to mark the International Year of Forests.

Beetles, grasshoppers, worms and larvae are being laid out on plates at the World Museum on William Brown Street for people to taste.

A museum spokesman said the dead creatures are sterile and seasoned to make them more appetising.

Tasting sessions are being offered from 13:00 to 16:00 BST.

The museum hopes the snacks will stimulate a debate over the nutritional value of insects.
