A man has died in an accident at the Jaguar Land Rover car plant in Halewood, Merseyside.

Graham Begley, 49, from Halewood, was seriously injured at the factory at about 20:00 BST on Monday. He died at Whiston Hospital later that night.

A post-mortem examination was being carried out on Tuesday afternoon.

The Health and Safety Executive and Merseyside Police have started a joint investigation into the "unexplained death", a police spokesman said.

Part of the plant was sealed off while an investigation was carried out.

A spokesman for Jaguar Land Rover confirmed there had been a serious accident and the company's senior management were at the plant on Monday night trying to establish what had happened.

About 3,000 people are employed at the factory which makes the new Range Rover Evoque and the Freelander.
