The restoration of Liverpool's Pier Head landing stage has moved closer after a new floating platform was tugged into place.

The £8m stage will house Mersey Ferries and Mersey Fire and Rescue's river-based community fire station.

The bridge linking Merseytravel's Pier Head ferry terminal will soon be lifted into place to allow passengers to use the new facilities.

The former landing stage sank in storms in March 2006.
