Fears over Warrington Callands care home rumours

The relatives of people living in a residential home in Warrington have said they are concerned it may close as part of council cuts.

Woodleigh Community Support Centre in Callands is currently under public consultation over changes to services.

The relatives' group said staff at the home, which cares for elderly patients, including those with dementia, have told them it will shut.

Warrington Borough Council said no decision had been made.

The authority said a consultation over the future of its adult social care was ongoing.

Barry Flynn, whose mother lives at the centre, said the council had not been able to confirm or deny the rumours about the home.

He said: "It would be devastating for her to be moved.

"Given her mental capacity and her physical disability I would be very doubtful whether she would survive the move."

'Range of options'

Joe Blott, executive director for community services at the council, said: "We do very much care for our most vulnerable people in Warrington.

"We have a range of options that we are consulting on at this moment in time.

He said no decision had been made on the future of the care home or the proposal to transfer in-house social care services to alternative providers.

He added: "We have to find £6.8m worth of savings for adult social care.

"We have not undertaken any staff briefings around this particular issue because there is nothing to brief staff on at this moment in time."

The public consultation closes on 31 January.
