Liverpool mayor election: Lib Dems select Richard Kemp

  • Published

Liverpool's Liberal Democrats have selected Richard Kemp as the party's candidate for the city's mayoral election.

Mr Kemp, who is the party's deputy leader in Liverpool, will contest the post in elections on 3 May.

In February city councillors voted to bypass a proposed mayoral referendum and instead move straight to an election for a mayor in May.

Nominations for mayoral candidates close at 12:00 GMT on 4 April.

Labour leader Joe Anderson has already said he will seek his party's nomination to stand for the position and John Coyne is to represent the Green Party.

Independents Liam Fogarty and local hair stylist Herbert Howe have also announced their intention to stand.
