Deadline looms to apply for a Liverpool home for £1

People interested in buying a house in Liverpool for just £1 have until the end of the day to register interest.

Anyone who buys one of the vacant houses in Granby, Kensington or Picton would be expected to refurbish them and live in them for at least five years.

Liverpool council decided to extend the deadline for applicants after it received more than 2,000 in one week.

The pilot scheme forms part of the wider plans to bring 179 empty homes back into use.

The 20 homes which are up for sale for £1 are in the Granby Four Streets, Arnside Road and Webster Triangle East areas of the city.

The council hope the initiative will "drive up the quality of housing and build stronger, more sustainable neighbourhoods".
