An area of Merseyside was cordoned off after what is believed to be a World War II grenade was found.
The device was spotted by a man sorting through a relative's belongings at a house on Kingsway in Waterloo at about 10:50 GMT.
Specialist officers from the bomb disposal team were called to the scene and made the device safe.
Kingsway was closed between Crosby Road North and Stuart Road as a precaution but later reopened.
