Two employees at a Liverpool care home have been arrested on suspicion of neglect, police have said.

A 50-year-old woman from Runcorn and a 42-year-old man from Wavertree were arrested and bailed pending further inquiries.

The pair worked at the Finch Manor Care Home, Dovecot, which has places for 89 residents.

A spokesman for the Care Quality Commission (CQC) said it was "monitoring the situation closely".

The home has special provision for people with dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Merseyside Police said it was working with Liverpool City Council's adult services to contact relatives of those affected by the allegations.

The CQC spokesman said it was "aware that two members of staff employed at the Finch Manor care home, Dovecot, Liverpool, have been arrested.

"We are liaising with Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council and we are satisfied there are adequate interim staffing arrangements in place to meet the needs of people living in the home."
