Two women have been charged after a man was mauled to death by a dog in Liverpool, police have said.

Clifford Clarke, 79, was attacked in the garden of his home in the Clubmoor area of the city in May last year.

Hayley Sulley, 29, of Richard Kelly Close, Clubmoor, and Della Woods, 29, of Swallowhurst Crescent, Norris Green, have both been charged with offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

They will appear at Liverpool Community Justice Centre on 11 February.

Merseyside Police said both women have also been charged with three offences of causing unnecessary suffering to a dog.
