Sir John Goldring said it was "very sad" the juror had to be discharged

A member of the Hillsborough inquests jury has been discharged for "wholly exceptional medical reasons".

The coroner Sir John Goldring told the hearing in Warrington it was "very sad" the juror had gone but "we, of course, must carry on".

It means the inquests into the deaths of 96 Liverpool fans who were fatally injured at a FA Cup semi-final in April 1989 will continue with 10 jurors.

The minimum number that can hear evidence at an inquest is seven.

The hearings began with the maximum of 11 jurors.

The inquests are due to conclude in early 2016.
