A newborn baby has died after a tree fell on to her mother's car.
Firefighters had to cut the pregnant woman free from her damaged vehicle after the incident in Arrowe Park Road, Wirral, at about 08:00 GMT on Thursday.
She was taken to hospital, where she later gave birth to the girl, who Merseyside Police said died in the early hours of Friday morning.
The woman has received medical treatment and is expected to make a full recovery, a police spokesman said.
"The family have been asked to be left alone in privacy to be allowed to grieve," he added.
"The family would like to thank the emergency services and everyone, including members of the public, who came to her aid on the day."
An investigation into the incident continues.
