A major blaze at a warehouse full of paper has destroyed the building's roof, Merseyside Fire Service said.

The fire at the industrial unit on Long Lane, Aintree, began at about 15:00 GMT and caused a 800ft (245m) plume of smoke.

Firefighters are trying to stop the fire spreading to surrounding buildings, said the fire service.

It added there have been no reports of any injuries. Long Lane has been closed in both directions.
