Man shot by cyclist in Liverpool had survived previous attack

A man who was shot dead by a cyclist in "broad daylight" had previously survived an attempt on his life, police have confirmed.

Carl Russell was shot as he got out of a car on Cornwood Close in Liverpool at about 11:30 BST on Sunday.

The 27-year-old, who had served a jail sentence for possessing a firearm, was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Two men from Belle Vale, aged 29 and 33, have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.

Merseyside Police said the cyclist was "white, in his late 20s and of medium build"

Merseyside Police said the fatal shooting in Belle Vale was a "targeted attack" as Mr Russell left the car with his girlfriend.

The force said he had survived a shooting over eight years ago.

Appealing for information, Det Ch Insp Mark Baker said the man responsible for the shooting was "believed to have been riding a pedal bike and made off from the scene in the direction of Madeira Drive".

He said the man was "white, in his late 20s and of medium build".

"[He was] dressed all in black and wearing a high-vis orange jacket, which was dark blue at the bottom and had a reflective band," he added.
