Tilstone House: Cheshire stately home badly damaged in blaze
- Published
Fifty firefighters have battled a blaze at a 19th Century Cheshire mansion.
Ten fire engines were sent just after 20:30 GMT on Sunday to Tilstone House on Nantwich Road in Tarporley.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) said the fire had spread to all three floors of the former stately home which is now used as a wedding venue. It was built in 1888.
The fire was being damped down on Monday morning. There were no injuries as the house was empty at the time.
Water was pumped from the Shropshire Union Canal up to teams at the house.
Police closed the A51 in both directions at Tilstone Fearnall but it has now reopened.
