Rachael Moore was described by her family as a "caring friend to many"

The family of a woman who died when she was hit by a police car on Christmas Eve has described her as a "cherished daughter".

Rachael Moore was struck while walking in Sheil Road, Liverpool, at about 20:10 GMT on Saturday.

The 22-year-old died at the scene and her family is being supported by specially-trained officers, Merseyside Police said.

In a statement, Ms Moore's family said she was a "caring friend to many".

"She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. The family requests their privacy be respected at this devastating time," they added.

Det Sgt Kurt Timpson, from Merseyside Police, said officers were providing assistance to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which has launched an investigation into the circumstances.

He said: "Our sincere and thoughts and condolences are with Rachael's family who have been left devastated by this tragic incident."

Police are appealing for witnesses and those with relevant CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage to contact them.
