Crowds turn out for Chester Diwali celebrations
Hundreds of people have turned out to watch a Diwali parade in Chester, where spectators said they wanted to enjoy "being together, and spreading love and happiness".
Celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains, it marks the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.
This year, the five-day festival culminates on 12 November.
The term Diwali comes from the Sanskrit word deepavali, meaning "rows of lighted lamps".
