Southport collision: Wheelchair user injured in suspected hit and run

Two people have been arrested after a man who uses a wheelchair was injured in a suspected hit and run road crash.
A man in his 40s suffered serious leg injuries when he was hit by a blue Volkswagen Bora Sport on Southport Promenade at about 20:50 GMT on Monday.
The car was found by Merseyside Police in Southport Road later, officers said.
A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drink-driving, drug-driving and failing to stop.
The 38-year-old woman, from Bootle, was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class B drug.
The 34-year-old man, from Walton, was also arrested for failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
The injured man was being treated in hospital where his condition was described as critical, police said.
Road closures have been put in place from the roundabout with Knowsley Road to Saunders Street while forensic officers examine the scene.
Merseyside Police urged anyone with information of dash-cam footage to contact them immediately.
