Family's tribute to 'caring' cyclist killed in crash

Paul Cunliffe was described as a caring man who always had a funny story to tell

The family of a cyclist who died in a crash have paid tribute to the "caring" father-of-two.

Paul Cunliffe died in hospital after his was hit by a van and car om 4 December in Sherdley Road, St Helens.

Merseyside Police said both drivers stopped at the scene.

Sarah, his wife of 18 years, and his sons Joshua and Dominic have been left "devastated" by his death, police said, while his family described him as "a quiet, caring man full of good humour".

They continued: "Paul would do anything to help anyone and all of his friends and family have nothing but fond memories of him."

Mr Cunliffe had lived in Sutton Heath all his life and worked at High Tech Steel in Bold.

His family added: "He loved working there and always had lots of funny stories to tell when he got home.

"Paul will be deeply missed by all of his family and everyone he met."

Police said the drivers of the Nissan Micra and white Ford Transit van involved were "assisting us with enquiries".

Mr Cunliffe had been wearing a yellow hi-vis jacket at the time, the force said.

Officers have appealed for witnesses and anyone with relevant CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
