Police described the woman's injuries as serious

A man has been arrested after a woman was injured in a serious crash on Merseyside, police said.

The woman was taken to hospital following the crash in Woodchurch, along with three boys who suffered minor injuries.

Police said a 22-year-old man from Upton has been arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and remains in custody.

CCTV inquiries were being carried out in the area.

Emergency services were called to the crash involving a red Ford Fiesta and a white Hyundai i10 on Hoole Road at 17:00 GMT on Monday, the force said.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service removed the woman from the white car and she was taken to hospital for treatment.

The three boys, who were also inside the vehicle, suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital, police added.

Hoole Road, Grasswood, Pemberton Road and Ferry Brow was closed while inquiries were being carried out in the area.

Officers appealed for anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
